Caliph Walid's messenger Harun set out from Basra for Alwar with ten other Muslims. He left Basra, reached Shiraz, then passed through the borders of Makran and Nirun and entered Sindh. Since he was an ambassador, no one stopped him on the way. The fort of Alwar was very large and high, twice as wide and high as the fort of Debal. The population of the city was very dense, the markets were bustling, the roads were good and the cleanliness was also better. There were more temples here than Debal and on one side the royal palaces spread far and wide. There was a military camp near the palaces, and there were many temples inside the palaces, perhaps as many temples as there were queens because one queen considered it an insult to go to another's temple.
