This is a really interesting piece by the English Baroque master, also called the "Orpheus britannicus". The original instrumentation is not clear to me, but this appears to be an arrangement by Stefan Apke most likely intended to be for harpsichord; however, it seems to do well on an organ, too, as variable registration can enhance the sequential variations and repeats. The "Ground" is actually a Chaconne, with repetition of every new variation, each of which follow the underlying harmonic pattern. It is written in G major, and is presented in a meantone temperament. Instrument: Johannus Monarke "Breughel".
