Panaji | Oct 27: The Chief Engineer of the Goa Electricity Department today clarified that there will be no increase in power tariffs for domestic consumers, putting to rest public concerns triggered by recent statements from the Power Minister.

The clarification came after a Congress delegation led by GPCC President Amit Patkar, accompanied by MLAs and party supporters, met the Chief Engineer at his office. During the meeting, the delegation played a video of Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar’s earlier comments suggesting a possible tariff hike.

Responding to the delegation, the Chief Engineer assured — in the presence of media personnel and on camera — that there will be no hike in domestic power rates, and that the minister’s comments pertained only to industrial units, which have been under a separate tariff structure for many years.

Later in the evening, at around 4:00 p.m., Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar held a press conference and clarified the issue, reiterating that no increase in tariffs for household consumers is planned.
