Max Mara answers with a neo-gothic chic that meets urban rusticity. Redingotes cinched at waist and full at the hem have detachable quilted linings and sleeves in leather or shearling. Cut off at the waist, the silhouette becomes a full skirt. Antique britches inspire modern trousers. The longer leg is emphasised by the shorter, neatly tailored jacket. There are greatcoats with military overtones, squirelike frock coats, capes, generous clutch coats and robes-de-chambre cut in earthy tweeds, luxurious double face cashmeres and feather light worsteds. And when night falls Max Mara heroine turns to black velvets and boned bodices.
