mandhagugadhi thanda sri sant sevalal bhapu and Mariamma yaadhi pooja 🙏🙌
Sant Sevalal Maharaj (1739–1806) is the primary spiritual teacher and social reformer of the Gor Banjara community. His worship is inextricably linked with Shri Bhavani Mata (also known as Jagadamba Devi), whom he revered as his kuldevi (ancestral goddess).
Religious Significance
Spiritual Lineage: Sevalal Maharaj is believed to have derived his spiritual strength from Goddess Bhavani of Tuljapur. In Banjara tradition, puja is almost always offered to both together, representing the union of the divine teacher and the mother goddess.
Poharadevi (Kashi of Banjaras): The main pilgrimage site for this puja is Poharadevi in Washim, Maharashtra, where temples for both Sant Sevalal Maharaj and Jagadamba Devi are central to communal worship.
Common Puja Practices
Bhog and Bhandara: Community feasts called Bhog are offered to the deities during celebrations.
Diksha Mala: Devotees often observe a period of penance called Sevalal Diksha Mala, which typically culminates in a yatra (pilgrimage) to a local Tanda or to Poharadevi.
Jathara (Fairs): Annual festivals or Jatharas involve rituals such as Abhishekam (ritual bathing of idols), Pallaki Seva (palanquin procession), and the hoisting of white and red flags (Jhanda).
Jayanti: The birth anniversary of Sant Sevalal Maharaj is celebrated annually on February 15 with grand maha-pujas and community gatherings
