The scent of an old, well-kept home, of Hinoki cypress and dried tea leaves, filled the air, a stark contrast to the blood and fear that had once defined his youth.
Beside him sat his great-grandchildren, listening as he whispered his final lessons, his voice a raspy echo of the vibrant youth who had wielded the Nichirin blade. He spoke not of the demons' true horrors, but of the strength of human connection, the beauty of a clear blue sky, and the unending cycle of responsibility and kindness he and his sister Nezuko had fought so valiantly to protect.
As the sun began to set, painting the room in familiar orange and pink hues, Tanjiro smiled. He took a final, slow breath, a scent of his beloved family and a quiet, certain peace filling his lungs. In his mind’s eye, he was no longer an old man, but a boy again, walking hand-in-hand with those he had lost, toward a warm light, finally ready to rest.
