Though the piece may appear rather long for the Grade 2 student, much of the materials on the next page is repeated onto the last page. After a 4-bar introduction, an enchanting and light-hearted melody enters at bar 5. The key of C major in the higher registers gives this piece (in 12/8 time) a pure and pleasant appeal. One can imagine snow flakes falling in the beautiful, chilly snow covered weather. The sections with the churning broken chord figure (bars 21-28 and 37-44) give the impression of a dancer turning and pirouetting in a musical box.

This piece embodies a sense of purity and innocence, much like the delicate fall of snowflakes. Its calm and unhurried spirit should always prevail, even though the pulse of the music moves forward gently. The overall mood is tranquil, reflective, and weightless, evoking the quiet beauty of a winter landscape.

At first, one should practise establishing a steady compound rhythm, ensuring the triplet flow remains natural and fluid. The right hand, with its recurring broken patterns, must feel effortless and circular, as if carried by a gentle wrist motion directed slightly to the right for each group of three notes.

Although the piece may seem lengthy for its grade level, it is built upon repetition and variation, making it more approachable once the main material is understood. For example, bars 5–12 and bars 29–36 are almost identical, as are bars 21–28 and bars 37–44. Because of this structural repetition, students should devote special attention to the introductory section (bars 1–4) and the more expressive passage from bars 13–20, where subtle shaping and tone colour bring contrast to the texture.

Pedalling is essential but should only be added after rhythmic and tonal stability is achieved in both hands. The pedal should serve to enhance resonance without blurring the texture—a light, fluttering pedal often suits the crystalline quality of the sound.
Ultimately, The Snow Prelude No. 3 invites the performer to explore clarity, balance, and a sense of serene motion. The goal is to create an atmosphere that feels untouched—simple, pure, and quietly luminous, like snow settling gently on a still morning.
