Even though I consider this an upgrade, I must admit that this is more like a personal preference. While the ASTRAL DISH WHEELS can seem a good choice for some of the DT-02 and DT-03 buggies, for a Rising Fighter, a genuine Hopper, I prefer something slightly sleeker and more classic. So I chose a new set of wheels and a new set of front tires for it.
While the STAR DISH WHEELS is still commonly found on modern types of 2WD and 4WD Tamiya vehicles, like buggies from the DT-, DF- and TT-02B-series, they actually outdate even the Super Hornet. These where first seen on buggies like the Dyna Storm, Super Astute and Top Force and have some sort of capability to be both classic and modern at the same time. That is exactly what I am looking for with The Rising Fighter, a buggy from 2008 with a 1988 chassis and 1990s body and gear box.
It is also a very affordable choice since these wheels and tires are still produced today and are very common. I actually also hope that the different off set and wider stance of the Star Dish Wheels, compared to the Astral Dish Wheels, will give the Rising Fighter a bit more stability.
When the season comes, I will most likely run it with a lot of other sets of wheels and tires (like all terrain and on road tires), but this new set is an aesthetic choice, for the times when it is resting at home beween runs. I will however use them for some off road runs. Even though many are very negative about the Tamiya Square Spiked Rear Tires, they are actually excellent on loose surfaces, like sand, gravel, grass or loose dirt, where the spikes can dig into something. They are actually also quite good on asphalt/tarmac but in these conditions they of course have limited durability.
You will find much more information about the tire and wheel choice in the video itself and you can find more information about the upgrades and The Rising Fighter itself in the below linked videos and description boxes.
