Community members from Elkhart, St. Joseph, and Kosciusko Counties came together for a powerful and groundbreaking evening of truth-telling, creative resistance, and collective healing at Speak Our Truth Project: Mic Check — Voices for the Movement, held on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at LangLab in South Bend.

Sponsored by Rio’s Rainbow, this first-of-its-kind cross-county collaboration amplified the voices of youth, artists, and advocates—and, in a profound and unprecedented moment, law enforcement representatives from all three counties. Through spoken word and lived experience, participants shared reflections from within the school-to-prison pipeline and explored how children’s behaviors are increasingly addressed by overwhelmed and under-resourced systems.

This family-friendly gathering welcomed people of all ages into a space where art, lived experience, and activism met. Through spoken word, poetry, and music, the evening uplifted movements for child safety and human rights in Indiana while naming the systemic changes that remain urgently needed.

Special shoutout to our incredible MC, Eve LeVeque, and our DJ, the one and only Certified Grind, for holding the space and setting the tone for the evening.

Indiana Child Safety Campaign Movement:
This movement was sparked by the heartbreaking loss of children like 12-year-old Rio Allred, who died by suicide after enduring relentless bullying at school. Her story is not an isolated tragedy.
Across Indiana, children continue to face a crisis of neglect, abuse, violence, and insufficient mental health support, while the systems meant to protect them fall short.

Mission:
To mobilize a parent- and community-led movement that compels Indiana to become the first state in the country to make child safety the top legislative and budgetary priority in every branch of state government.
Vision:
1) Every elected official in Indiana treats child safety as a top priority. 2) The State of Indiana allocates and maintains sufficient resources to ensure the safety and well-being of all children in schools, communities, and state systems. 3) The Indiana General Assembly prioritizes legislation that closes identifiable systemic gaps in child safety across education, DCS, healthcare, and the juvenile/family court systems.

Call to Action:
Organizers are calling upon youth, parents, guardians, educators, medical professionals, faith leaders, service providers, lawmakers, elected officials, and every Hoosier to stand together for child safety in Indiana!

This is a bi-partisan and non-secular child safety movement ensuring every child's right to grow up safe and secure in Indiana. This is about protecting our children’s lives and futures.
