(21 Apr 2014) After night fell in Paengmok port on Monday more bodies from the stricken ferry Sewol were brought ashore.
Twenty-six more bodies were recovered on Monday and taken for identification.
While divers continued to search the interior of the submerged vessel, the confirmed number of dead rose to 86, according to information from the South Korean coast guard posted for the victims' families.
About 220 people remain missing after the Sewol sank last Wednesday with 476 souls aboard.
Divers were unable for days to enter the submerged ship because of strong currents, bad weather and low visibility.
Over the weekend they were able to use a new entryway through the dining hall, resulting in a jump in the discovery of corpses.
Choi Jin-ho, a professional diver who is part of the search effort, said he managed to enter the vessel and search about ten metres into it before turning back.
"I could not see anything in front, nothing in front and the current under water is too fast. Then your breathing gets faster and panic sets in," he said.
Choi said he found no missing passengers before he began to run out of air.
Relatives of the missing passengers were taken the site of the ship wreck to see the rescue operation process.
Many returned in the evening with tears in their eyes.
