The Price of Freedom: Andrew Smith Gives Back

Описание: Andrew and Tori Smith were married just a few weeks before he was deployed to Afghanistan. There he suffered injuries he will carry with him the rest of his life.

In 2012 Army Specialist Andrew Smith lost both legs when he stepped on bomb buried in the ground in Afghanistan. He has spent much of his time since recovering from his injuries, learning to walk again with prosthetics, and for the last six months adjusting to life back home in East Tennessee.

"Things are just slower,a Andrew Smith told us. aI find myself like, man, why is this taking so long? It takes me a little bit longer to move around and do things."

Last summer the organization Steps to Hope along with an army of donors and volunteers built a beautiful home for Andrew and Tori.

"It's still cool to go into Wal-Mart and have someone come up and say. I painted your bedroom," Tori said.

Now the Smithas want to pay the generosity they've received forward. They've started a foundation called Honoring the Sacrifice. Their goal is to help others injured in combat get access to the things they need. The first step will be a fundraising banquet on June 6th at the Chattanoogan. The guest speaker at the banquet will be Colonel Danny McKnight. The movie and book Black Hawk Down told the story of his role in the battle of Mogadishu.
