Joan of Arc’s story is one of faith, courage, and sacrifice.
Born in 1412 in a small village in France, she grew up during a time when her country was torn apart by war and occupation. From a young age, Joan believed she was guided by divine voices, urging her to help save France from English rule. Though uneducated and inexperienced in warfare, her conviction was so strong that it set her apart in a world dominated by men and nobility.
At just seventeen, Joan convinced French commanders to let her accompany the army. Against all expectations, she helped inspire troops and played a crucial role in lifting the siege of Orléans in 1429. Her presence changed the course of the war, restoring hope to a nation on the brink of collapse. Soon after, her victories helped secure the coronation of Charles VII as king of France, fulfilling what she believed was her divine mission.
Joan’s success, however, made her powerful enemies. She was captured by opposing forces and handed over to church authorities, who put her on trial for heresy. The proceedings were deeply political, shaped more by fear and power than truth. At just nineteen years old, Joan was found guilty and sentenced to death.
In 1431, she was burned at the stake in Rouen. Years later, the trial was declared unjust, and Joan’s name was cleared. In time, she became a symbol of courage and faith, and was eventually canonized as a saint. Today, Joan of Arc is remembered not only as a warrior, but as a reminder of how conviction and bravery can change history — even at the greatest personal cost.
