Our new highlights video captures the energy and leadership at “From Nice to New York: Activating the High Seas Treaty!” on the margins of UNGA, where heads of state, ministers, actor and activist Sigourney Weaver, ocean champions from civil society and philanthropy all came together to mark the Treaty’s imminent entry into force.
With over 60 ratifications, the momentum is unmistakable. This event showcased the bold leadership and collaboration needed to turn the High Seas Treaty into real action on the water, and why universal ratification remains essential to protect nearly half our planet.
This high-level event was co-hosted by the governments of Belgium, Costa Rica, Côte d’Ivoire, Chile, France, the European Union and Palau, in partnership with NRDC, Bloomberg Ocean Initiative, the High Seas Alliance, Arcadia, Blue Nature Alliance, Blue Marine Foundation, Minderoo Foundation, Oceans5, Oceano Azul Foundation, Pew Charitable Trusts and others.
