Amtrak Keystone Corridor: Winter 2026 Operations

Описание: Winter’s wrath has arrived in south central and southeastern Pennsylvania, including the eastern portion of the Keystone Corridor, owned and operated by Amtrak between Harrisburg and Philadelphia. Amtrak operates two PennDOT state-supported services on this line: The Keystone Service, operating between Harrisburg, Philadelphia and New York, and the Pennsylvanian, operating between Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and New York. Two major winter storms, including Winter Storm Fern, have dropped over a foot and a half of snow in this area throughout late January, causing widespread havoc on operations.

The last time we covered this corridor, we focused on the Harrisburg and western Lancaster areas. In this video we will be focusing on the eastern Lancaster area and return to Christiana, which borders Chester County. This 26-mile stretch of the Keystone Corridor, between Lancaster and Parkesburg has no station stops, and features some of the most scenic portions of the line through eastern Lancaster County, including the Conestoga Creek Viaduct, Greenfield, Bird-in-Hand, Ronks, and Gap.

The majority of this video showcases footage of various Keystone Service and Pennsylvanian trains with their current consists. Current Keystone Service consists include: one ACS-64 electric, four Amfleet I coaches, and a former Metroliner EMU cab car. Current Pennsylvanian consists include: one GE P42DC diesel, one Viewliner baggage, one Amfleet I Business, one Amfleet I Cafe, and three Amfleet II coaches. In this video, you will see certain variations of these consists, as winter weather impacted certain equipment, mainly the Metroliner cab cars.

Throughout the early 2020s, Amtrak began planning and expediting suitable replacements for the fifty plus year old Amfleets, which have been the backbone of Amtrak's operations. In the coming years, new Siemens built "Airo" train sets are scheduled to begin operations on several Amtrak services nationwide, including the Keystone Service and Pennsylvanian. Once the "Airo" sets enter revenue service, it's only a matter of time before both the Metroliner cab cars, P42s, and several Amfleets are retired.
