They said it couldn't be done on a simple printer: a fully functional, watertight, print-in-place water pump... printed all in one go.
3D printed pumps are notoriously leaky. But I'm putting that to the test! In this video, I'll walk you through the entire journey of designing and printing a single-piece impeller pump—including all the moving parts, housing, and impeller—using a budget 3D printer and some clever tricks.
What you'll learn:
The secret to a successful Print-In-Place design: See the exact CAD techniques I used to ensure a perfect separation between moving components.
Multi-Material on a Single Extruder: Discover how to use a standard, simple 3D printer (like one without an MMU or dual-head) to successfully print with dissolvable supports on a budget, using simple G-code and slicer settings (PrusaSlicer / QidiSlicer).
The BVOH Dissolve Test: see how smooth the final surface finish is (you won't believe it!).
The Ultimate Test: Will it actually pump?
After designing the optimal 10-vane impeller (based on my previous testing video!), coating the final print in epoxy, and letting the supports soak for three days, it's time to test its performance.
Can a fully sealed print-in-place design actually create a suction head? You'll see the head-to-head results against the two-part version and find out the maximum suction height this single-piece wonder can achieve!
