We travelled from Budva Montenegro to the capital of Tirana Albania by bus. It was quite a travel experience with a rainstorm and missing the first bus, but Tirana blew our minds.

Its very affordable with the currency being a bit weak, the food is delicious (we had our first traditional Albanian dinning experience) and the people very friendly. This place is very underrated.

I love doing a walking tour when arriving in a new country to not only get your bearings and the must-visit eateries but to learn more about the countries history. Our tour guide was the best and even managed to add some humour to some of the dark parts.

Albania was closed for 40 years, life was hard, the dictator was ruthless but the history is fascinating and the country has come so far since it opened less than 20 years ago. It is surreal to imagine the dictatorship and communism that reigned here merely a few years ago.
