"Temperature Rising," the first season of which was produced by William Asher, is an ABC sitcom set initially in Capitol General Hospital in Washington, D.C.

Characters included the chief of surgery, Dr.Vincent Campanelli, played by James Whitmore. Others in the cast included Dr. Jerry Noland, played by Cleavon Little, and Dr. David Amherst, played by David Baily. The nurses were played by Joan Van Ark as Anne Carlisle, Reva Rose as Mildred MacInerny, and Nancy Fox as student nurse Ellen Turner. This version of "Temperatures Rising" was the first of three formats over the two seasons it aired on ABC.

The second version (1973-early 1974) included new producers and cast members. Cleavon Little was the only holdover. The hospital became privately owned by Martha Mercy, played by Susie Bond, and run by her son, Dr. Paul Mercy, played by Paul Lynde. New nurses were cast, some doctors were added, with Jeff Murrow as Dr. Lloyd Axton and John Dehner as Dr. Charles Cleveland Claver.

The third version aired during the summer of 1974. It eliminated Martha Mercy and replaced her with Edwina, her daughter and the brother of Dr. Paul Mercy, as the co-owner of the hospital. It also brought the return of Nancy Fox as Nurse Ellen Turner.

The first episode aired on September 12, 1972, and the final airing was on August 29, 1974.
