First Time Splitboarding: Ptarmigan Station to Cairngorm Summit (1245m)

A short splitboard tour from Ptarmigan Station up to the summit of Cairngorm (1245m) via the Marquis Well Path, in the Cairngorms National Park.

This was my first outing on a splitboard, testing a complete setup bought on eBay for £240 and learning the basics of touring. I took the first train up at Cairngorm Mountain, stepped straight onto fresh snow, and headed for the summit.

Despite good snowfall recently, some sections were wind-scoured and rocky near the top, meaning the final stretch was done on foot. The reward was a calm, clear day with superb 360-degree views across the Cairngorms.

After spending some time at the summit cairn, I headed back down before swapping to my regular snowboard for the rest of the day on the slopes.

Before setting out I checked the forecast from the Scottish Avalanche Information Service, which showed a low avalanche risk and a generally low-risk route. 🏔️🏂
