He presents a vivid picture of the contemporary Calcutta and its culture. Rabindranath Tagore was born into a Bengali aristocratic family. In this book, he inspects the details of the realities of everyday life when he was a child. Through his eyes, we get a clear image of the late 19th century Calcutta and it is also easy for us to perceive the changes that occurred during the span of a century. Rabindranath also brings out the very heart of old Calcutta through his own experiences and feelings as a child. Without a trace of self-pity, he depicts his childhood under the stifling control and command of his elders. Most importantly, this book acts a means to understand the difference in life between the late 19th century and the 21st century. It also represents the changes that occurred in the Bengali upper middle-class households, but what remains to be said at the end is that 'My Boyhood Days' documents the acute sensibility of a child who went on to become one of the creative giants of India.
