This videos provides a little glimse of our canoe trip paddling around the Helgeland coast, a huge area of thousands of little islands on the west coast of Norway, south of the Arctic Circle. This gorgous area is full of bird colonies, characteristically steep mountains and islands as far as you can see. It provides perfect opportunities to explore this area by canoe or kayak. On our paddle we met only a handful of people and had time to slow down, observe and just dive into the magic of this calm nature.
Also worth visiting but not mentioned in this video is the island of Vega, which is the largest island of the Vega Archipelago that holds over 6,000 islands and is an UNESCO World Heritage Site. We visited Vega’s World Heritage Center and learned more about the way generations of fishermen and farmers that have maintained a sustainable living in an inhospitable seascape for over 1,500 years and we also found out more about their unique practice of eiderdown harvesting.
