This 1939 *Color Classics* short from Fleischer Studios (released January 26) is directed by *Dave Fleischer* with animation by *Myron Waldman* and **Arnold Gillespie**, and music by **Sammy Timberg**.
It features the donkey duo *Hunky and Spunky* — here, Hunky is teaching young Spunky how to kick properly by practicing on a mattress. Spunky then befriends a family of birds building a nest, and inspired by their flying nest design, he tries to replicate it — but things go wrong when he falls out.
The plot thickens when a vulture kidnaps one of the baby birds. Spunky uses his new kicking skill to chase off the vulture and rescue the hatchling, proving that practice can pay off in unexpected ways.
Running about *7 minutes 15 seconds**, this short also highlights Fleischer’s use of bright 3-strip Technicolor, part of their **Color Classics* series rivaling Disney’s Silly Symphonies.
