The Wenshu Monastery in Chengdu, Sichuan, China is one of the best preserved monasteries in the province. It's free to enter, and offers relaxing gardens, social gazebos, and many places to worship. There are 80 monks that live in the monastery. My favourite part of the visit was watching the monks unwind with games of badminton and table tennis.
The area surrounding Wenshu temple is great for souvenir shopping and trying some of the local street food. Guokui is a must-not-miss snack that involves a pita-like bread stuffed with beef and chili oil. You can also get a bowl of sweet water noodles, which combines the 5 flavours on a generous helping of thickly cut noodles.
