Sold. Here's a stunning Akai GX-4000D I brought back from the grave! This unit now looks and sounds beautiful.
I performed the following:
Cleaned the entire unit's transport section via disassembly, Q-tips, and Alcohol. Proper oil and grease was applied for crisp & smooth transport function.
Cleaned the inside of the unit with pressurized air, applied a thorough deoxit to the pots/channel selector, and replaced the belts with OEM spec belts.
Recapped the electrolytic capacitors in the power supply and main record/playback amp with Nichicon capacitors.
Replaced all 2sc458 and 2sc945 transistors with KSC1845. This lowered the noise floor to whisper quiet, it's one of the quietest home recording decks i've come across!
Aligned with an Ampex 7.5ips alignment tape and calibrated to service manual spec.
