The Competition Bureau, the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police hold a news conference in Ottawa to mark the launch of Fraud Prevention Month. They highlight the fact that Canadians lost more than $704 million to fraud in 2025, with total reported losses since 2022 surpassing $2.4 billion. They discuss tools that can be used to equip Canadians to better identify, report, and respond to instances of fraud.
Among the press conference participants are Jeff Horncastle (client and communications outreach officer, Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre), Chris Lynam (director general, RCMP National Cybercrime Coordination Centre (NC3) and Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (CAFC), Josephine Palumbo (deputy commissioner, deceptive marketing practices directorate, Competition Bureau), Cameron Graham (staff sergeant, Ottawa Police Service), Sue Dallaire (constable, Ottawa Police Service), Jennifer Spurrell (detective superintendent, Ontario Provincial Police), Lynn Danis (acting staff sergeant, Ontario Provincial Police), Erica Codner (assistant director of outreach and engagement, currency department, Bank of Canada).
