On 16 March 2020, the Supreme Court denied anticipatory bail to Gautam Navlakha, a civil-rights activist, and Anand Teltumbde, a writer and scholar, in the Bhima Koregaon case. They were booked by the Pune Police under the draconian Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in 2018, for alleged Maoist links.
At the time of this interview, on 21 July 2019, the Bombay High Court was hearing Navlakha’s petition to quash the FIR against him. The court dismissed it on 13 September. He has since been seeking anticipatory bail. The Supreme Court has now asked Navlakha and Teltumbde to surrender within three weeks.
