Naryn is a high-altitude frontier town hidden deep in the mountains of Kyrgyzstan. From the world's smallest trolleybus system to mountain-view military bases and wobbly suspension bridges, this is the raw side of Kyrgyzstan most people miss.
Perched at 2,000 meters, Naryn is one of the highest cities in Central Asia and offers a side of Kyrgyzstan that most people miss. In this mission, I explore the local quirks that make this place so special—from the wobbly suspension bridges over the Naryn River to a football stadium with one of the most dramatic backdrops in the world.
We take a walk through the streets to see the local atmosphere, discuss why a "kalpak" is an essential piece of safety gear, and check out the local architecture that blends mountain life with urban living. If you want to see the authentic, unpolished Kyrgyzstan, Naryn is a must-visit.
