09/03/2025 - Winter Haven, FL - This morning, students at the Abby Lane Apartment Complex bus stop in Winter Haven,
experienced delays as authorities conducted a search of their belongings under the 'Safe Schools' program. The Winter Haven Police and Polk County Sheriff K9 unit, responded to the scene after receiving reports of a student possibly possessing a gun, prompted by images of a boy with a firearm.
After a thorough investigation, including a walkthrough by the Polk County Sheriff K9 deputy, all students were cleared. Authorities determined the images were old, and no weapons were found. The situation was resolved, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
Afterward, students were seen with big smiles, greeting the K9 deputy and officers as they boarded their buses. We have reached out to the Polk County School Board for confirmation regarding the affected school buses and schools and are awaiting their response. Nothing further at this time.
