Umberto Lenzi trades in his usual high-energy crime thrills for a more methodical, shadow-soaked giallo in Seven Blood-Stained Orchids. When a string of women are murdered by a black-gloved killer who leaves a strange crescent-shaped charm at each scene, the bodies pile up in a pattern only the police and a recently targeted survivor can decipher. Riz Ortolani’s score glides between jazzy cool and razor-edge tension, wrapping the film in that unmistakable early-’70s Italian thriller atmosphere. Less lurid than some of its peers but just as compelling, this one rewards patient viewers with a methodical build and a polished payoff.
