Movement of the fibula is essential to the lower-leg kinetic chain, transmitting forces between the knee and the ankle. The fibula acts as a shock absorber during torsional stress to the muscles attached to the fibula. The most common mechanism of injury is internal or external rotation of the tibia with the knee flexed, allowing the fibular head to become fixed in an anterior or posterior position. Point tenderness will be present over the affected fibular head, and movement will be severely limited when the tibia is internally and externally rotated with the knee flexed.
To correct a fibular head fixation, an HVLA is delivered to the fibula head as per the video.
