🎢 We are back at Efteling to explore the early history of the Carnaval Festival dark ride 🎡 This classic attraction opened in 1984 as Efteling’s first true dark ride and introduced the world to the cheerful mascot Jokie de Pretneus (Jokie the Prank‑nose) 🤡 While most guests today know the ride for its global celebration and catchy tune we found rare 1980s VHS footage that shows a different version of the experience 🕰️

🎞️ This is Carnaval Festival at Efteling in 1985, shown from our restored VHS source 📼 Back in the mid‑80s you could actually rent a heavy Panasonic VHS camera set at In Den Ouden Marskramer (At The Old Peddler) to film your day 📹
🎭 In this video we point out early scene differences, like original marionettes and a now‑removed "risqué" shadow play, and explain what likely motivated those changes.

💎 It is a fascinating look at the lost media history of the first dark ride in The Netherlands.
