I picked up this pool cue and found out it has become somewhat rare and interesting story that will certainly start a fight between any billiards fans.
This is a link professing that this design was the earliest work he did with Huebler, but Huebler continued to sell this design as his own up until 1982 ish. It appears in a Huebler catalog which has throw many people off from discovering the distinction that the Pool Cue design was made by both makers.
When I called Meucci HeadQuarters they said Bob Retired and could not answer questions on it. They had know idea of the pool cue and had to take a day to respond, they said the Hubler catalog was enough for them to Judge it wasn’t a Meucci. I called Proficient Billiards 3 times, the first two employees said they couldn’t say anything and were unaware of it would have to get back to me. The third time I called I had luck and Scott the owner/manager answered. He was had more insight and was impatient and not wanting to talk about it but confirmed that Meucci did make that pool cue and the difference was tellable because Meucci made his with a brass thread and Huebler made his with a plastic thread. It also states that Huebler always used plastic threads in the Pool Cue Blue Books. It also is nameless where Hubler would have a stamp/marking in the butt and Meucci would label his with a sticker that usually wore off
I don’t know why this makes long playing Pool Cue Fans upset but it’s guaranteed to start an argument and having people strong standing on their sides. I feel like when you uncover history some people don’t want to see it as a change and instead of looking at the facts and logic can overlook the variables and complexity of the argument.
I would ask for people to write any info they have on either side so that we can uncover the lineage of Meucci. Love him or hate him he is important to the history of pool. His business and pool cues are said to be out dated and most fans will buy his pre 1996 Cues for better performance in play. From what I’ve heard and read it seems like Meucci sold his secrets early and had a mismanagement in his business or was taken advantage of.
