This is part 1 of a two part series on the QiaoTou Sugar Factory. This started out as a single video, I just had a lot of footage it was better to make a 2 part video than to cut out a lot of the story. Part 1 is about the trains and the factory, Part 2 is about the grounds of the factory. The introduction is the same on both since I didn't know I was making a 2 part video until I got home. Lessons in planning my videos.
QiaoTou Sugar Factory is a cultural and historic site in Kaohsiung about the history and influence that the sugar industry had on southern Taiwan. The history of sugar in Taiwan starts with the Dutch in the 1600s and goes all the way to the present. This takes you through the factory where the sugar was made. This factory was the first modern sugar factory built by the Japanese for making sugar. There were many of these factories built in southern Taiwan in the early 1900s. This one was built in 1901 and was in use until 1999.
