Basic tips
The most basic tips for helping your toddler sleep longer in the morning, is to:
Have a completely blacked-out room
Have white noise play all night long.
If you’re already doing that, and your toddler is still waking up early in the morning and won’t go back to sleep, there are some more detailed tips you can follow below.
Sleep needs
When your baby hits 15-18 months old, he will probably be taking 2-3 hour long and restorative naps. However, at around the age of 2 yrs/2 yrs 3 months, sleep patterns start to change. This means that they’re still able to sleep that long and well during the day, but naps might be interfering with bedtime. That’s why at age 2, we start trimming down nap time for it not to interfere with bedtime. The sleep needs of your toddler decrease subtelly with time.
Nap times according to age
2 yrs old: 2hrs
2.5 yrs old: 1.5 hrs
3 yrs old: 1 hr
Your 3 year olds nap might be tricky to navigate: you can either choose to stop napping and move bedtime up earlier, or keep napping for just 1 hour during the day. Most 3 year old still need a daily nap.
