O'McPub Band's performs at The Harp DC every 3rd Wednesday of the month. The band usually plays a variety of traditional and popular Irish tunes. This is the 2nd set of tunes they performed on Ash Wednesday
Here's a breakdown of the performance:
Energetic Opening (0:00-3:10): The band starts with "Come Out Ye Black and Tans," setting an upbeat tone for the evening.
Audience Interaction and Dedications (3:11-5:58): They transition into "Beer, Beer, Beer" and then dedicate a "Happy Birthday" song to Lindsay, inviting the crowd to sing along.
Storytelling Through Song (6:04-11:18): Lindsay's friends requested "Scotsman," a song with a humorous narrative, and "The Unicorn," which includes a fun dance that we got a few people to perform!
Melancholic and Reflective Tunes (11:19-22:28): The band performs "Galway Girl" a song about longing and desire, and "The Night Pat Murphy Died," a humorous take on an Irish wake. They then play "Rose Tattoo," a song about personal history and memories.
Songs of Protest and Unity (22:29-32:28): The band tells the story of Bobby Sands and the lyrics of "Back Home in Derry," explaining the historical context of Irish resistance. They follow up with "Men Behind The Wire," a powerful protest song, and "Paddy Works on the Railway," a lively tune about Irish laborers.
Drinking Songs and Anti-War Message (32:29-41:20): "Whiskey In The Jar" gets the crowd going, after which the band plays "Zombie," explaining its anti-war message in response to the 1993 Warrington bombing (35:44-36:04). They conclude this segment with "Drink It Up," another drinking song.
Cultural Pride and Traditional Sounds (41:21-55:37): The performance highlights Irish pride with "Kiss Me I'm Irish" which is typically the band's last song but they got requests for a few more. So they kicked off the encore with a modern classic tune by Kingfishr "Killeagh" and Wofetones' "On The One Road," emphasizing unity. They also give a "one song warning" (51:20) for the upcoming "Rattlin Bog," encouraging the audience to get their drinks ready, before performing "Fields of Athenry."
High-Energy Finale (55:38-1:04:24): The band launches into the fast-paced "Rattlin Bog," a complex cumulative song that is a crowd favorite, and ends the night with "Fairytale of New York," a beloved Pogues tune.
