Many strategy games use random events to allow players to make strategic decisions and inject some flavor into their narratives.These random events are a well-liked mechanic among fans of Europa Universalis IV, Crusader Kings 2, and Stellaris, so I decided that it may be a good idea to add a similar random event mechanic to my indie game, CultGame -- a text-based 4X strategy game where you become a cult leader and go out to convert the world to your religion. This devlog video discusses the design of a random event system, why I believe it to be good, and briefly demonstrates the random events working in the game.
