4K Driving Tour Kansas City, Missouri and Overland Park Kansas

We start out driving southbound on 169 into downtown Kansas City. This affords us one of the most spectacular views of the city skyline. We have nicknamed this portion "planes, trains and automobiles" because of the BNSF rail yard to our east and of the Downtown Airport to our west. This was Kansas City's original "international" airport until the early 1970's. The Missouri river is to our west here then we pass over it on the Buck O'Neil Bridge, which until a couple of years ago was always known as the Broadway Bridge. It was built in 1956 and was originally a toll bridge. It is aging and is slated for replacement soon, which is a shame because it is an iconic part of the city skyline. Instead of passing through downtown, we go around to the west of downtown on the "downtown loop." We head south and exit on Southwest Trafficway, which is sort of an in town freeway. We head west at 39th street, so I can visit my friend, Emily's coffeehouse, which is Downbeat Coffee + Tea, to have a drink that is sort of named after me called the "Esteban." We head west on 39th into Kansas, and enter Kansas City, Kansas. I know people not from the area and some people who live here will be confused to see the Kansas City city limit sign pop up again. That is not a mistake as we are entering the other Kansas City. We head south on Rainbow through some of the northeast Johnson County Kansas suburbs and west on Shawnee Mission Parkway. Then we enter Overland Park, Kansas and head south on Metcalf Avenue. I tour downtown Overland Park before finishing our tour on south Metcalf.
