SYNOPSIS:
Operation Valkyrie (often associated with the 2004/2008 German drama of the same name) follows the tense true-story events of July 20, 1944, when a faction of German officers led by Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg devised a daring assassination plot against Adolf Hitler and a plan to seize control of the government afterward. As Germany faces crushing losses and Allied forces close in, Stauffenberg and his co-conspirators believe that eliminating Hitler is the only way to rescue their country from catastrophe. The plan involves planting a bomb at Hitler’s Eastern Front headquarters and then activating “Operation Valkyrie” — a contingency plan originally intended to maintain order — to mobilise Reserve Army units loyal to the conspirators. Despite meticulous preparation, the plot fails when the bomb does not kill Hitler, leaving the conspirators exposed. As the coup collapses, the conspirators’ fate is sealed and the brutal consequences unfold: many are arrested, tried, and executed. The story is a harrowing chronicle of bravery, conflicting loyalties, moral turmoil, and the high-stakes desperation of a decaying regime.
