Every premature baby’s eyes are at risk — but it’s preventable.
Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) happens when fragile blood vessels in the retina grow abnormally after early birth. Left unchecked, it can lead to blindness.
Here’s the good news — screening on time and treating early prevents most vision loss.
If your baby was born before 34 weeks or under 2 kg, ROP screening should be done within the first 4 weeks of life (or earlier for very preterm babies).
It’s a painless eye exam that takes minutes — but protects a lifetime of sight.
Ask your NICU team or pediatrician when your baby’s first ROP check is due. Because vision once lost… can’t be brought back.
