Ghana’s proposed 24-hour economy policy has come under intense scrutiny as political voices question its clarity, feasibility, and the explanations surrounding it.
Founder and leader of the United Progressive Party (UPP), Akwasi Addai Odike, insists he has long doubted the policy would ever materialize, questioning what exactly constitutes a 24-hour economy and how it is expected to function in practice.
Adding to the debate, Deputy National Communications Director of the NPP, George Krobea Asante, argues that the NDC relied on slogans to appeal to the youth and secure votes during the elections. He also pointed out that some of Ghana’s major social intervention programs were introduced under NPP administrations, highlighting the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) under former President John Agyekum Kufuor and the Free SHS policy under President Nana Akufo-Addo.
Meanwhile, General Secretary of the GCPP, Citizen Ato Dadzie, says the explanation being offered by the NDC regarding the 24-hour economy and the approach being proposed is difficult to understand.
The discussion raises broader questions about the practicality of the 24-hour economy policy and whether it is a realistic economic strategy or simply a political promise.
