13 people perish in accident on Wundanyi-Mwatate road

The death toll of those who perished in a road accident in Josa area along the Wundanyi-Mwatate road in Taita Taveta County has risen to 13. The Saturday night accident happened after a bus carrying a group of mourners travelling to Mombasa after attending a funeral in Mghambonyi rolled over killing 9 people on the spot while others succumbed while receiving treatment.
Several passengers who sustained various degrees of injuries during the accident are still receiving treatment in different hospitals in Mwatate and Voi. According to Mwatate sub-county police Commander Morris Okul says prelimimary investigations show the accident might have been caused by a failure of the brakes of the bus which caused it to fall into the slopes. Okul says investigations into the incident are underway
