Check out this 16th Note 2-5-1 Improv Line over "Here's That Rainy Day" as played live at Campus JAX (Orange County, CA) as part of TrioGram II ft. Joe LaBarbera CA Tour:
1) Note how we start our line before the Cmi7 (iimi7). This connects the seams so that our improvisation feels fluid, rather than always 4-bar phrases which sound rigid.
2) 32nd Note Turns are a nice texture that breaks up the 16th note flow. **this happens over the Cmi7 and Bbma7
3) Rhythmic Release - releasing rhythmic rates is a great technique to end a line so that your phrase does not end abruptly. Here we release from 16th notes to eighth note triplets.
