Havana, Cuba - 29-30 April 1994
Cuba, cancelling its traditional May 1 parade in a spirit of austerity, is instead marking the traditional workers' holiday by
holding a special session of parliament to debate the next, possibly painful measures, in its cautious process of economic
reform. Smaller processions were being held locally Saturday. May Day was once a major Communist holiday held to honour the workers of the world.
