DUNCAN - People of Deuchars Drive in Duncan woke up to a bold surprise. A big red sign saying smartmeters are not welcome here. The sign also warns the smartmeter installers that they could face trespassing and vandalism charges. The neighborhood block watch is leading the initiative. They have been working on preventing BC Hydro from installing smartmeters throughout the neighborhood.
They have also installed smart meter blockers on the old hydro meters. They are a 3 piece metal lock that is placed over the old hydro meter. Close to 90% of the homes on Deuchars Drive have blocked their hydro meters preventing BC Hydro from changing the meters.
BC Hydro's Ted Olynyk says the meters belong to BC Hydro and by law they must made accessible. The blockers maybe removed by BC Hydro due to safety concerns.
