STORYLINE:
Further interceptions were seen in the sky above Doha on Saturday as Iran retaliated to a major joint attack by the U.S. and Israel.
The initial strikes on Tehran came two days after the latest U.S.-Iran talks as U.S. President Donald Trump sought to create pressure for a constrain the country's nuclear program, building up a fleet of American warships in the region.
Trump called on the Iranian public to “seize control of your destiny” by rising up against the Islamic leadership that has ruled the nation since 1979.
Israeli officials told The Associated Press later that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was dead, while Trump said the same in an interview with ABC News.
There was no immediate comment from Iran on his status.
Iran responded as it had been threatening to do for months, including by launching missiles and drones targeting Israel as well as strikes targeting U.S. military installations in Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar.
Qatar’s Defense Ministry said its military shot down several missiles before they reached its space.
The ministry said the missile were dealt with as soon as they were detected “in accordance with the pre-approved security plan.”
The Qatari Foreign Ministry condemned the attacks, calling them a “flagrant violation” of its sovereignty which “cannot be accepted under any justification or pretext”.
It added that Qatar has been always among the sides calling for a dialogue with Iran.
