Wings of night unfurl above her,
a monument of grief made flesh,
the silence of graves given voice.

Its form is despair,
the weight of centuries pressing inward,
the hollow echo of every scream
never heard.
Eyes like voids,
a hand outstretched,
not to strike—
but to pull her into the abyss
where countless others have fallen,
nameless, forgotten, erased.

Her blade trembles.
Not from weakness,
but from knowing
what lies in its reflection.
For within despair’s face
she sees her own scars,
her own nights
when the sun did not rise,
her own grief sharpened into chains.

The wind howls like the wailing of the lost,
and in the fields around her
swords stand planted in the soil—
testimonies of battles
never won,
monuments to those
who once fought the same darkness
and could not rise again.

Mortality is written into the sky.
Every cloud a reminder
that breath is borrowed,
that joy is fragile,
that even the strongest fall.
Her heart tightens.
Is she only another name,
another sword buried in silence?

But then—
a memory.
The clasp of another’s hand,
warmth in a world so cold.
Laughter shared under fragile stars.
The weight of grief halved
by a voice that dared to stay.
Threads of bond,
woven through her soul,
refuse to break.

She raises her head.
Despair roars.
The heavens quake.
And yet, she does not move back.

For despair is vast,
but it cannot love.
It cannot remember
the small kindness of a friend
who sat beside her in silence,
the gentle defiance of a smile
in the dark.
It cannot carry the echo of voices
who once called her name
and believed she would rise again.

Her sword steadies.
The shadow looms.
And with every beat of her heart
she whispers—not to despair,
but to herself:

I am not defined by the void.
I am not the sum of my wounds.
I am the fire that endured them.
I am the bond that survived them.

The darkness lashes out,
a storm of grief without end.
But even as she staggers,
she moves forward—
not to conquer despair,
for despair is eternal,
but to prove that she is, too.

Her blade sings,
forged not of steel alone
but of every life that touched hers,
every soul she carries within her.
And as she swings,
the sky breaks open—
not with sunlight,
but with the possibility of it.

Despair will rise again.
It always does.
But so will she.
For purpose is not written in stone,
nor carved by gods,
nor given by fate.

Purpose is found
in the fragile, fleeting moments
where love defies oblivion,
where grief becomes memory,
where despair is met
by a single, stubborn breath.

And in that breath—
in that strike—
in that unyielding choice
to keep moving forward,
she discovers what it means to live.
