Washington, DC's Ward 8 neighborhood reacts to President Trump's federal takeover in the capital

Описание: On the second day of President Trump's takeover of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), Ward 8 neighbors told 7News they had not seen a change in law enforcement or extra presence from police or the National Guard.

"I haven't seen the National Guard deployed," said Ward 8 resident Eugene Branch. "You just hear talk. You don't know exactly where they are, which communities they're going to. We haven't seen any of that over here in Southeast DC."

Branch wonders if his neighborhood will receive the same attention as Navy Yard or the National Mall, where military vehicles lined up near the Washington Monument Tuesday afternoon.

"There's a part of the city that may have a cold, but this area has pneumonia," said Pastor Tony Herndon, referring to the area's issues with crime. "We need to make sure that there's justice for the whole city, that there's equal attention in terms of love and justice."

This week, 800 National Guard troops were ordered into DC, but on day two, Ward 8 Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner Andrea Davis said there was no sign of the deployment there.
