San Diego County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher announced he will be resigning from his position to seek treatment for post-traumatic stress and alcohol abuse last Wednesday.
This announcement came after a former MTS employee, Grecia Figueroa, filed a lawsuit against Fletcher accusing him of sexual assault and harassment.
Fletcher denied the allegations but admitted that he previously had an affair with Figueroa outside of his marriage.
He then went on to release a statement on Twitter to share how the allegation was affecting him and his family.
“The strain on my wife and family over this past week has been immense and unbearable,” he wrote.
“A combination of my personal mistakes plus false accusations has created a burden that my family shouldn’t have to bear. I will be resigning from the Board of Supervisors, effective at the end of my medical leave. I will focus solely on getting healthy and being a good husband, father, and friend.”
A few days later, a second woman accused Fletcher of inappropriate behavior. This came from one of his former interns who worked for his non-profit “The Three Wise Men Foundation.”
Her report was filed at UC San Diego with the Sexual Assault Resource Center.
The Board of Supervisors has until May 2 to either appoint a new candidate or hold a special election to fill Fletcher’s role.
