Trying traditional Slovenian food in Ljubljana, Slovenia

Описание: Where to eat in Ljubljana, Slovenia! Today we’re having dinner at the traditional Slovenian restaurant @figovc in Ljubljana

There’s usually a line outside this traditional Slovenian restaurant in Slovenia’s capital so of course we joined it because one thing I will queue for, is good food. I’m on a quest to try the best local and traditional Slovenian food during my time here and @slovenskahisa came highly recommended, I didn’t realise we actually ended up at their sister restaurant Slovenska Hisa - Figovec a restaurant where you can experience Slovenia’s culinary heritage.

It’s a casual spot, once seated service is friendly and quick. Chigsy had a hearty vegetable minestrone soup and I went for Bovški čompe - potatoes stuffed with ricotta. This warmed on me the more I ate it as I enjoyed the garlicky cheese, but it did seem more like a side dish.

For our mains we tried the Leteci zganci, a traditional Ljubljana lunch of fried chicken drumsticks with a tasty potato salad. I could not get enough of my Idrijski likrofi which are traditional Slovenian potato filled dumplings. The dumplings were chewy and so moreish and the chunky veal sauce worked so well with it. It was like a beef stew with dumplings and I enjoyed every bite!

A hearty Ljubljana salad with pear taking centre stage again was the perfect accompaniment.

A great spot to try traditional Slovenian food if you don’t mind a wait for a table.
