Chasing R&N 5018 "Fast Freight Service" on the North Reading Fast Freight

Описание: During the end of the month of January, Reading & Northern's flag ship train, the NRFF was using the railroad's fancy painted SD50-2 5018 in its red and white "Fast Freight Service" scheme to lead the train north from Reading to Pittston on days where a third engine up front wasn't required. Knowing the odds were good but it was still a shot in the dark, I went out to Reading on Sunday, January 24th to try my luck, and I was rewarded. With a short train of inbounds from NS at Spring Street, the original leader, SD40-2 3056 was removed from the head end, leaving the 5018 and SD40-2 3058 to power the day's train, and it was a hard one to keep up with.

Starting out at Leesport, we see NRFF fresh outta North Reading Yard at track speed, catching them at Molino and Hecla afterwards. Then, it was off to the other side of Tamaqua for a quick shot splittling the 99 signals and taking the main at East Mahanoy Junction. We see them two more times along Park Avenue in Nesquehoning and getting back up to track speed after crossing the Lehigh River and entering the Lehigh Division at COAL, beginning their trip through the Lehigh Gorge.
