Location & Travel Guide
About Thariaghat
Thariaghat is a small, picturesque village located in the East Khasi Hills of Meghalaya. Unlike the high-security fences seen elsewhere, the border here is defined by the crystal-clear waters of the Dawki (Umngot) River. It is roughly 25–30 km from Cherrapunji (Sohra), making it a perfect day trip.

How to Reach There
By Air: The nearest major airport is Guwahati (GAU). From there, it’s a 5-6 hour drive.
By Road from Cherrapunji:
Hire a local taxi from the Cherrapunji main market.
Follow the route toward Laitkynsew or take the winding road down the valley toward the plains of Bangladesh.
The drive is steep and scenic, transitioning from the misty cliffs of Sohra to the tropical riverbanks of the border.
By Road from Shillong: It is about 80 km from Shillong. It's best to combine this with a trip to Cherrapunji.
Why Visit?
The "Love Border": Watch Indian and Bangladeshi fishermen sharing the same river in harmony.
The Drive: One of the most dramatic elevation drops in India, taking you from the "wettest place on earth" to sea-level plains in under an hour.
The Peace: Far fewer tourists than the main Dawki boating point.
